Homer: When you do not know God’s Will, do not bear ill-will towards those whom you do not like

From our publication “Homer’s Man and Peace”

6 – 4 – 1969

HOMER:

You are annoyed because your life-style is not to your liking. Whereas others of your fellow-men are successful in their jobs and enjoy the good things accruing to them, you, who worry so much, and with all the obligations you have, cannot manage to earn even a tenth of what others make.

You get angry, because whereas so-and-so is old and ill, he continues in life, whereas those about you, young and healthy, are called away to Heaven.

Whereas some people are favoured by fortune and acquire much wealth, even though they are worthless human beings, you, who possess so many qualities or unseen qualities, are upset at the unfairness of your different lots.

You see vulgar plutocrats wasting money to no purpose, and you, who have such need of it in order to survive, complain that such injustice should reign in the world.

You have need of family solicitude, and instead you live in an atmosphere of non-understanding, conflict and pressure.

You cherish a woman as the idol of your life, and she turns out to be its evil genius.

You hope for the good outcome of your business, and it ends up destroying the balance of your nervous system.

You love and are hated. You do good and are repaid with ingratitude. You save souls from certain danger or death and in return you are slandered and murdered by them.

You seek for happiness in something quite simple and get given gall and wormwood. They rob you of your fortune and then ask for more.

In all these and many other situations, do not bear a grudge towards the Divinity, who does not interfere in the events of your life. You do not know for what purpose you are caught up in all the unfavourable circumstances of your existence.

You are not aware of the causes, which lie in your own beings.

If you are a true believer in the Divinity, you will not oppose it; you will endure everything in patience, until the tempest is over. If, however, you do not believe in the Divinity, what is the point of cursing it? Do you not know that the Divinity leaves man free to do whatever he likes? You will account to Him when you are called upon to do so.

Man is aided or penalized on Earth by the Spiritual World, which has permission from God to act as it will.

You must never bear a grudge against the Divinity for your troubles, your labours and your struggles.

Care for and judge yourselves as you care for and judge your neighbour. God’s will is not what you think it is.

Why did God create so many beings? Precisely in order not to concern Himself personally (as you call it) with all the infinite concerns of Creation. Nameless ages ago the Spiritual World took the running of the Universe into its own hands. Have no doubt about the truth of this.

Do not speak of what you do not know, and do not, in your confusion, curse what is innocent. God forgives, but he.does not forget. A second error is liable to a just and irreversible punishment.
